Information we collect

We collect basic account information such as your email address, username and password that helps secure and provide you with access to our Services.

When you make a payment on VocabTracker, you may provide payment information such as your payment card or other payment details. We use Payment Card Industry compliant third-party payment services and we do not store your credit card information.

We ask you to input your country of residence and native language information in order to better offer services like showing dates and times in your local time zone and offering translations in your native language.

VocabTracker allows you to sign up and log in to the Services using accounts you create with third-party products and services, such as Facebook or Google (collectively, “Third-Party Accounts”). If you access the Services with Third-Party Accounts we will collect information that you have agreed to make available such as your name, email address, profile information and preferences with the applicable Third-Party Account. This information is collected by the Third-Party Account provider and is provided to VocabTracker under their privacy policies. You can generally control the information that we receive from these sources using the privacy settings in your Third-Party Account.

We automatically collect certain information when you visit, use, or navigate the Services. This information does not reveal your specific identity (like your name or contact information) but may include device and usage information, such as your IP address, browser and device characteristics, operating system, language preferences, referring URLs, device name, country, location, information about how and when you use our Services, and other technical information. This information is primarily needed to maintain the security and operation of our Services, and for our internal analytics and reporting purposes.

Cookies and Similar Technologies

When you visit the Services, a cookie will be stored on your computer. Generally, cookies and similar technologies work by assigning to your browser or device a unique number that has no meaning outside of VocabTracker. VocabTracker uses these technologies to personalize your experience and to assist in delivering content specific to your interests. Additionally, after you've entered your username and password during a session on the Services, VocabTracker saves that information so you don't have to re-enter it repeatedly during that session.

Most browsers automatically accept cookies. You can prevent cookies from being stored on your computer or device by configuring your browser to not accept cookies or to notify you when a cookie is being placed on your hard drive. Some browsers provide a mode where cookies are always deleted after a visit. This is called InPrivate, Incognito, or Private Browsing, depending on your browser.

Log Files

VocabTracker follows a standard procedure of using log files. These files log visitors when they visit websites. All hosting companies do this and a part of hosting services' analytics. The information collected by log files include platform type, date and time stamp, referring/exit pages, and possibly the number of clicks. These are not linked to any information that is personally identifiable. The purpose of the information is for analyzing trends, administering the site, tracking users' movement on the website, and gathering demographic information.

How VocabTracker Uses Information

VocabTracker uses the information we collect and receive to administer and operate the Services and as otherwise described in this Privacy Policy. For example, we use your learning information to provide you with statistics and visualizations representing key data points like known words. Your username will be shared on VocabTracker when you make an imported lesson publicly visible to other members.

We use your information to respond to you when you contact us. VocabTracker will aslo use your information to communicate with you, for example by sending you notifications.

VocabTracker will not sell, license, and share your information with any third parties except the conditions described in the Legal Requirements section.

Legal Requirements

We may preserve and share your information with third parties, including law enforcement, public or governmental agencies, or private litigants, within or outside your country of residence, if we determine that such disclosure is reasonably necessary to comply with the law, including to respond to court orders, warrants, subpoenas, or other legal or regulatory process. We may also retain, preserve or disclose your information if we determine that disclosure is reasonably necessary or appropriate to prevent any person from death or serious bodily injury, to address issues of national security or other issues of public importance, to prevent or detect fraud or abuse of VocabTracker or its members, or to protect our operations or our property or other legal rights, including by disclosure to our legal counsel and other consultants and third parties in connection with actual or potential litigation.

How We Protect Information

VocabTracker makes every effort to safeguard the collection, transmission and storage of the data we collect. Even though we strive to ensure your information is protected, we do not guarantee or warrant the security of the information you share with us and we are not responsible for the theft, destruction, loss or inadvertent disclosure of your information or content. The Services uses industry standard Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology to allow for the encryption of personal information and credit card numbers.

To help ensure that these measures are effective, you should understand the security features your browser affords. When submitting credit card and other personal information the browser you use should be security-enabled. Please note that if you do not use a SSL-capable browser, you are at risk for having data intercepted.

VocabTracker and its service providers have implemented security features in our servers to protect your personal information from unauthorised access. Servers are maintained in a controlled, secured environment. Constant changes to the internet and technology mean that we cannot guarantee that data transmission will be 100% secure, or safe from attack by unauthorised intruders.

Push Notifications

We may request to send you push notifications regarding your account or certain features of the application(s). If you wish to opt out from receiving these types of communications, you may turn them off in your account settings.

Google Analytics

VocabTracker has also integrated components of Google Analytics. Google Analytics provides services that enable the collection, gathering, and analysis of data about the behavior of visitors to our website. This service collects data about the website from which a person has come (the referer), which sub-pages were visited, or how often and for what duration a sub-page was viewed. Web analytics are mainly used for the optimization of a website and in order to carry out a cost-benefit analysis of internet advertising.

Deleting Information and Accounts

You may request that your account is deleted by sending an email to teamvocabtracker@gmail.com. Once deleted, your data, including your account and activities cannot be reinstated. Note that content you have shared with others (for example, through lessons) or that others have copied may also remain visible after you have deleted your account or deleted the information from your own profile.

Transfers

Our servers are located in the United States. If you are located outside of the United States and choose to use the Services or provide information to us, you acknowledge and understand that your information will be transferred, processed and stored in the United States, as it is necessary to provide the Services and perform the Terms of Service. United States privacy laws may not be as protective as those in your jurisdiction.

Your Rights and Our Legal Bases

We provide the same suite of privacy tools and controls to all of our members worldwide. Particular rights may be available to you if you reside in certain locations, such as the EEA, Brazil or California.

Retention of Information

We retain information as long as it is necessary to provide the Services to you and others, subject to any legal obligations to further retain such information. Information associated with your account will generally be kept until it is no longer necessary to provide the Services or until you ask us to delete it or your account is deleted whichever comes first. For example, where you withdraw your consent to VocabTracker processing your language learning information, VocabTracker will delete all language learning related information you uploaded. Following your deletion of your account, it may take up to 30 days to fully delete your personal information and system logs from our systems. Additionally, we may retain information from deleted accounts to comply with the law, prevent fraud, collect fees, resolve disputes, troubleshoot problems, assist with investigations, enforce the Terms of Service and take other actions permitted by law. The information we retain will be handled in accordance with this Privacy Policy. Information about you that is no longer necessary and relevant to provide our Services may be de-identified and aggregated with other non-personal data to provide insights which are commercially valuable to VocabTracker, such as statistics of the use of the Services. For example, we may retain popular lesson usage information, topic information and other depersonalized preference information to continue to improve the Services and to improve the Lesson Feed and provision of suitable content. This information will be de-associated with your name and other identifiers.
